Studying abroad

Hi everyone, Today I thought I would write a short blog on studying overseas for those who were not able to come to my presentation. I know many students at Akashi College are interested in going overseas, whether it is for travel, study or work. It can be both exciting and nerve wracking to actually make that decision and to go. So here are some things you should think about before going. 1. Research universities in different countries and think about where you would prefer to go. 2. Look into the entry requirements for the university and start organising everything for applying. This can be getting all your appropriated documents ready, maybe studying for an entrance exam or even doing an English language test. 3. Start making a financial plan. How will you pay for the tuition fees and every day living costs? Research different scholarship options available. Different universities, companies and even governments may have scholarships available. 4. Check applic...

Presentation day!

Hello everyone, So yesterday afternoon I gave a presentation at Akashi College about Finland. I talked about Finnish culture, customs and said a few words about the history. One of the main topics of my presentation was education in both Finland and in Australia. I don't normally like presentations and I was super nervous all day yesterday! But luckily a few minutes after I started the presentation I felt more relaxed. I still can't believe I actually spoke in front of people for over an hour!!! I feel very happy that I had the courage to do it. I hope everyone who came to watch the presentation really enjoyed it. If anyone still has any questions, don't be shy and come talk to me if you see me at the Global Terrace. Or you can even leave a comment in the blog. I am also happy to send the powerpoint slides to anyone who is interested. I hope that some of you feel more confident about looking into studying overseas, whether it is for a short exchange or completin...

Weekend travels

Hello everyone! I had a very busy weekend as I went to Kobe and Himeji Castle! Lots of walking and doing touristy things. I was very lucky with the weather too 👌. On Saturday, I spent the whole day walking around Kobe city. My host sister was kind enough to go with me and spend a few hours showing me around before she had to leave. I am very happy she came with as it was also the first time I used the train in Japan! But luckily I had a map (no interneton my phone!) so I was able to find all the places I wanted to visit. Here are some photos. On Sunday my host family took me to see the Himeji Castle. I absolutely loved it! Himeji Castle is very beautiful and so big too! We spend maybe  4 to  5 hours walking around the grounds. We went up inside the Himeji Castle and even went to the gardens next to it.  Until next time, Noora

Learning about Japanese culture

みなさん、こんにちは! My first week at the Akashi College has flown by!! I have done so many things and experienced many new things too. During my first day, I met with some Malaysian students who visited Akashi College for that afternoon. I joined them for a campus tour, which was good as I had no idea where anything was! After the campus tour the students at Akashi College taught us how to make some origami. It was very difficult, but also super fun! I am keen to learn how to make different things with origami. We made swans! We made an origami castle in groups! Another fun thing I did this week was to go watch traditional Japanese fencing, Kendo! I had never heard about Kendo before so it was very interesting to see what it was like. It looks like fun and like a lot of work! I think I would be too scared to try it😆 ! I have also been eating lots of Japanese food! I have tried some udon noodles, sushi and even had a Japanese bento at a cafe. かけうどん I have also b...

Hello!

こんにちは! I just wanted to write a short blog to introduce myself to everyone at the N ational Institute of Technology, Akashi College. Many of you have already met me, but for those who have not, my name is Noora. I am completing a 2 week internship in Akashi for my university in Sydney, Australia  (Macquarie University) . So, I will tell you a little bit about myself. I am from Finland, but I was born in Belgium and I lived there for 10 years. I went to a local school so I learned Flemish  (which is pretty much the same as Dutch) .  After this I finished my elementary school and high school in Finland  (I did spend 1 year going to school in the UK) . After I finished high school, I decided to take a gap year and not think about studying at university straight away. So, I decided to go live in Italy for 1 year and work as an au pair. An au pair is like a babysitter who lives with a host family. I ended up staying in Italy for almost a year and a half! I spoke no I...
