Memo 3- Origami kyoshitsu &Hanabi Daikai!


Origami tutorial: Today I attended the Origami lesson which held by a bunch of active student ambassadors. 
The class was so interesting that I was taught to make the various kinds of origami including Zuru, Samurai hat, shuriken and Ohimesama. 
During the process we made a lot of mistakes and ended up laughing so hard, I enjoyed so much and appreciated the kindness of the student ambassador for continuously letting use experience Japanese culture.

Hanabi Daikai (firework show): After a little break for refreshments. I grouped up with two dozens of students and headed to the shoreline 10 minutes walk away from the Uozumi station. It was a blast! 
After many years of witnessing the appearance of Firework show on TV, it was an absolutely mind-blowing and poetic event. I was given different kinds of small fireworks (Yes! We were making our own little firework show) and ignited them to enjoy the seconds of beautiful sparks. 
Then we also had the bigger size of fireworks soaring up into the sky with our countdowns. after two hours we finished all the fireworks and had to go back with the bit of reluctance.



What a day, I wholeheartedly enjoyed it!

Learning about Japanese culture

みなさん、こんにちは！ My first week at the Akashi College has flown by!! I have done so many things and experienced many new things too. During my first day, I met with some Malaysian students who visited Akashi College for that afternoon. I joined them for a campus tour, which was good as I had no idea where anything was! After the campus tour the students at Akashi College taught us how to make some origami. It was very difficult, but also super fun! I am keen to learn how to make different things with origami. We made swans! We made an origami castle in groups! Another fun thing I did this week was to go watch traditional Japanese fencing, Kendo! I had never heard about Kendo before so it was very interesting to see what it was like. It looks like fun and like a lot of work! I think I would be too scared to try it😆 ! I have also been eating lots of Japanese food! I have tried some udon noodles, sushi and even had a Japanese bento at a cafe. かけうどん I have also b...

A memo from past days in Akashi, part. 1

Memo 1 Today I tried to dine in the cafeteria inside Kousen, the experience is definitely memorable as it allows me to be a step further to experience a lunch culture inside a Japanese school. By following the instructions, I got myself a curry tonkatsu set meal (定食), despite commenting on the food itself, I found there are certain dine in etiquettes I have to keep eyes on.  First, we have to take a tray and get into the queue until you are up to get the food. After finishing the food, we not only have to return used dishes and the tray, we also have to put different tablewares to designated places and preferably rinse before return. I have grown much more respect to how Japanese are inherently willing to reduce the workloads for staffs. Looking forward to getting to know more about campus culture in Japan! Blake on 5th July

Hello again! It has now been a few weeks that I have been back in Sydney. I just wanted to write one last blog post to thank you all for being so welcoming during my stay in Akashi and tell you a little bit about what I did during my last few days in Japan! During my last two days in Japan I was able to do some sightseeing in Osaka and I even had time to go to Kyoto! It was a very interesting trip as I experienced a VERY full train ride from Osaka to Kyoto. I spent all day walking around Kyoto and I decided to rent out a kimono and walked around wearing it for about three hours.  Here I am wearing a kimono! Kyoto was super busy! View from my airbnb!! Thank you for everyone at Akashi Kosen for being so welcoming! I really enjoyed my time at the college and experiencing traditional Japanese fencing and tea ceremony!
